is breaking news about the data center fire that stopped Kakao service last weekend.

In the meantime, shutting off the power of the entire center to put out the fire was considered the biggest cause of the Kakao server's paralysis.

Reporter Ha Jeong-yeon reported.

Battery storage shelves are charred and dented, with wires and cables installed on the ceiling just above.

If you look closely, the cable trays protecting the wire cables are scattered and damaged.

According to data center blueprints secured by SBS, these wires installed on the ceiling just above the place where the lithium-ion batteries, which are known to have started the fire, are stored, are the main cables to the Kakao server.

As these wires and cables were damaged by the lithium battery fire, it is analyzed that many of the Kakao servers are dead.

Kakao also believes that this wire damage was the main cause of server downtime.

[Hong Eun-taek / Kakao CEO: The cable was damaged on the ceiling of the building, but unfortunately it was a cable connected to the Kakao computer room.

And now, thousands of servers are not working, and it seems that such an accident was unexpected.]

Lithium-ion batteries have a high risk of fire due to the so-called 'thermal runaway' phenomenon, and some have pointed out that the design of the data center itself with wires and cables installed directly above it is a problem.

[Heung-yeol Yeom/Professor of Information Security Department, Soonchunhyang

University: There is a possibility that the lithium charger may explode if a chemical reaction occurs, so it is necessary to install it separately from other facilities, and I think that additional damage can be prevented.]

: The battery was with the cable.

Since there was a fire here, the cable that supplies power to the main server right above it burned down.

Disability will continue for quite some time...

SK C&C, who was in charge of designing the facility, said it would not make an official position on SBS's coverage.
