It was later revealed that a fire chief in Seoul was dismissed from his job due to harassment at work after swearing at the employees who first ate the watermelon sent by the headquarters.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government yesterday (17th), the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters sent two watermelons to the Eunpyeong Fire Station in July to encourage employees, and it was investigated that the administrative team employees who received the watermelon used abusive language because they ate one of them first.

It is known that Chief A called the staff and rebuked them, saying, "Why did you guys eat the watermelon that came in front of the fire chief first?" and "It's like stealing a watermelon."

It is also said that he called the employees back to the chief's office and made them shout a slogan to the effect of "I will never eat watermelon first again."

In the end, Chief A was released from his position on the 14th of last month after an employee reported harassment in the workplace.

In addition, the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters has received additional cases of harassment at the workplace, such as Chief A, who routinely abuses employees and restricts them from using the days they want to take vacation, and is investigating them together.

An official from the Fire Department said, "After confirming the facts of the related case, we will soon summon Chief A to hold a disciplinary committee."

Meanwhile, under the current law, in the event that a public official is deemed unable to maintain his/her position, he/she may order 'removal of the position' to resign from his/her current position.
