November 22 is Kimchi Day, a legal anniversary.

This day was established to promote the value and excellence of kimchi. Did you know that New York, the city of gastronomy where food from all over the world gathers, also has Kimchi Day?

It was established as an official anniversary by the New York State Legislature in May of this year, and starting this year, a commemorative event will be held on November 22, the same day as Korean Kimchi Day.

Rep. Ron Kim, who became New York State's first Korean-American congressman 10 years ago, led the establishment of the anniversary with Korean-American groups, and her Korean name is Kim Tae-seok.

He heard the reason why he created Kimchi Day in New York, USA, that he was teased for smelling stinky when he put kimchi in his lunchbox as a child.

"I immigrated to New York in 1987 when I was 7 years old. When I was young, whenever I looked at anything like kimchi, I was despised a little by pointing out that all Americans smelled like kimchi. Seeing Korean adults suffering, I felt like I wanted to protect and give more strength to those who lived in hardship in our community, no matter what I do one day

. I also worked as a football player during my school days, and after entering college, I started studying politics in

earnest

.

I didn't have an elite background like the previous political candidates, and my parents weren't rich either."

Although he became New York State's first Korean congressman in 2012, he says he could feel the subtle ridicule and discrimination against Koreans and Asians even in Congress.

"I was walking down the street and a senator said, 'Isn't that Ron Kim?'

Then they ask me if I can dance to Psy, the first thing I ask. What does that mean? That's 'microaggression', subtle discrimination. How many Asians are suffering from social media news in New York right now in Corona 19? , being despised, being subjected to hate crimes…. To straighten our Korean culture (in the United States) is to say, 'You can't ignore' (say) to subtle discrimination.

" He led the adoption of the resolution on the March 1st Movement Day, and we are also thinking about ways to strengthen Korean history education in the oriental history curriculum of New York State public schools.

In addition, next year, we plan to introduce a welfare system to New York that helps the elderly with home care using AI technology from a Korean company.

What kind of Korea will he be known for next?
