This time, we will focus on the areas that need more attention from our society.

The government support budget for the developmentally disabled has increased more than 24 times in four years, reaching 28 billion won this year.

Obviously, the number has changed significantly. So, how much do families with developmental disabilities feel that their budget has increased in real life?

Through the 'Weekly Activity Service', a care service for adults with developmental disabilities, which receives the most support, we covered the reality of the situation and numbers of families with developmental disabilities.

First of all, this is reporter Yoo Seong-jae.

The map you see now is a survey of how long it takes for about 5,800 people across the country who use the 'weekly activity service' to go to welfare facilities by basic group.

The national average is 19.5 minutes, the shortest time is 6 minutes, Boeun-gun, North Chungcheong Province, and Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, which takes just over 39 minutes.

In Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, it takes an average of 24 and a half minutes, and in Sejong-si, it takes an average of 27 minutes.

that's the average.

We tracked the actual travel route and time of the 'person' behind this average number.

Early in the morning, Ki-young, who is developmentally disabled, leaves her house alone.

She takes a bus to her activity class in town.

She has to drive over an hour on a winding national road.

It took 1 hour and 35 minutes to reach the facility 30 km from home, over an hour longer than the local average.

Sang-jun of Sejong City is in a similar situation.

Wake up early in the morning to get ready,

[Right.

Her mom will help.]

Get into the van with the help of an activity supporter.

A road that runs 21 km on a national road.

It took 54 minutes to arrive, twice the average.

[Lim Seong-deok/Dedicated staff for daytime service: Because the distance is long, there are many people who make mistakes while being patient.]

The problem with long travel times is that depending on the degree of disability, monthly vouchers are paid. This is because in many cases, it is deducted from the 'Activity Assistance Time' to the travel time.

'Activity assistance time' refers to the time spent in essential activities such as eating, bathing, and using the toilet.

Sang-Jun, as you can see earlier, receives a voucher for 70 hours of subsistence time a month, but is wasting about half of it on the road just for round-trip travel like this.

[Civilian/Guardian with Developmental Disabilities: It is difficult for the child to have a bit of difficulty due to the long travel time, and the available (activity assistance) time may be reduced.]

The support system that provides care services to adults with developmental disabilities is Also, unless it is tightly built, people who give up on using the weekly activity service or have significantly lower satisfaction will inevitably increase.

[Kang Seon-woo / National Assembly Health and Welfare Member: Additional fees can be supported with sufficient budget.

We should not solve such problems first and ultimately leave it to the private sector.

The state should be held responsible.]

Of the approximately 50,000 people who actually use the weekly activity service, only 17% are using this service.
