“Lidar, like the unmanned vehicle itself, is prone to pollution, and this affects how the car navigates in space.

Accordingly, if it incorrectly reads the information, in the worst case, an accident may occur.

The automatic cleaning system will prevent you from being in such a situation,” said team leader Bogdana Zaitseva.

The interlocutor of RT explained that the lidar is one of the most important elements of an unmanned vehicle, since it is he who forms a three-dimensional picture of the surrounding space, read while driving.

According to the developers, the cleaning system is made entirely of domestic components.

At the same time, it is noted that it will be cheaper than the foreign analogues existing today.

The customer of the design solution was the NTI Competence Center in the direction of "Photonics".

Thanks to special sensors on the lidar, contamination is detected, then liquid is supplied through the hoses in the form of an aerosol, and the excess is removed using compressed air.

During the year, the team plans to test the prototype and, if necessary, refine it.

Earlier it was reported that in Russia they are developing a robot capable of conducting excursions and looking for criminals in the crowd.
