Prosecutors investigating the allegation of donations to Seongnam FC yesterday (30th) indicted the former CEO of Doosan E&C without detention on charges of bribery to a third party.
In their indictment, it was written that they had conspired with two people, Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, and Jeong Jin-sang, leader of the party.
Reporter Park Chan-beom reports exclusively.
The prosecution yesterday applied the former CEO of Doosan E&C A to trial without detention on charges of bribery to a third party.
He is suspected of paying 5 billion won to Seongnam FC between 2014 and 2016 and receiving preferential treatment for changing the hospital site in Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu, owned by the Doosan Group, to a commercial one.
Former Seongnam City Strategic Promotion Team Leader B, who had attracted donations from Doosan, was also indicted without detention on charges of bribery to a third party.
Prosecutors confirmed that in the indictment, Mr. B stated that he had conspired with Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, and Jeong Jin-sang, leader of the party's political affairs coordination office.
Prosecutors believe that Lee received a report on the process of receiving donations from Director Jeong, who was designated as the person who actually operated the Seongnam FC, and made the final decision.
[Kwak Seon-woo / Former Seongnam FC CEO (interviewed on the 28th of last month): I was grateful that Director Jeong Jin-sang worked so hard as the actual owner of the club and received the donation.
It is almost impossible for a club to attract such a large amount of money.]
Prosecutors are also questioning whether there is a problem with the process in which bonuses for attracting corporate advertising expenses were only returned to some Seongnam FC employees known as close associates of Lee Jae-myung, even though minority shareholders at the time owned more than 30% of Seongnam FC's stock.
The result of the investigation is noteworthy because it contradicts the claim of Lee, who has argued that Seongnam FC received advertising expenses as a condition of change of use for the benefit of citizens.
As soon as the prosecution completes investigations into other companies that have donated money to Seongnam FC, such as Naver and Cha Hospital, it is expected that the investigation schedule will be coordinated with CEO Lee and Chief Executive Officer Jung.
