Despite being the world's most widely used messaging service with two billion monthly active users as of October 2021, WhatsApp is still not available for iPads and Android tablets.

However, this situation could change in the coming weeks, reports Phonandroid.

According to information from the WABetaInfo site, which has scrutinized the beta version 2.22.21.6 of WhatsApp, a tablet application will soon arrive.

The latter is linked to the phone application since WhatsApp only works with a phone number.

To connect to the tablet application, it will be necessary to scan a QR code available in the mobile application.

Thanks to this QR code, the user will then have access to all of his messages on his tablet.

He can also send messages and make calls.

The interface has been redesigned for large screens.

A cross-platform tool

The tablet version of WhatsApp actually works through "companion mode", a system under development that should allow users to connect WhatsApp to another smartphone.

This could mean that it will be possible to connect an Android tablet to a WhatsApp account on iPhone.

An interesting feature, especially since the tablet version of WhatsApp is currently only available for Android tablets.

Currently, this tablet version is only in beta mode.

Its official release is expected to come in the coming weeks, although Meta, the group that owns WhatsApp, has yet to announce anything.

WABetaInfo also added that at its launch, some recent features of the application could be missing, such as communities or the possibility of sharing your location with your contacts.
