“If there is an opportunity to help others in the future, I will do my best to help.”

A word from a righteous middle school student who saved an elderly man trapped in a semi-basement due to heavy rain touched my heart.

The protagonist of the heartwarming story is Shin Min-je (Gangnam Middle School), 15, who lives in Singil-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

On the night of August 8, when Seoul became a sea of water due to an unusual torrential rain, Shin, who lives in a multi-family house in Singil-dong, was worried about his grandfather in his 80s living in the basement of the same building. I did.

At that time, his grandfather struck the upper part of the glass front door with a hammer to get out of the semi-underground house where rainwater was pouring in.

In response, Shin and his mother, without delay, smashed the window of the front door and dramatically rescued his grandfather, who was in crisis.

The house was already filled with water to waist height.

It is said that Shin, who moved to Singil-dong when he was in elementary school, often came and went with his grandfather, who had been living in the semi-basement for a long time.

At that time, Shin, who learned kendo and aikido, lived under the advice of his grandfather, who had practiced in the past, and it is said that his parents often took care of his grandfather.

Even on the day of heavy rain, Shin's parents were worried about his grandfather's well-being, so Shin and his mother looked around the semi-basement together and were able to dramatically save the grandfather who was struggling.

The friendship between neighbors, which was usually shared, saved a life.
