In February, in connection with the accident in which one worker died in the process of demolition of a dormitory at Jeju National University, the first charge of violating the Act on Punishment of Serious Accidents in Jeju was applied.

The Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor has sent the manager of a construction company in charge of the construction of the privately funded rental project for the student dormitory at Jeju National University to the prosecution on charges of violating the Serious Disaster Punishment Act.

In addition, on charges of violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the site manager, the person in charge of safety and health management, and the company, which is a corporation, were handed over to the prosecution with the opinion of indictment.

Separately from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Jeju National Police Agency also sent four people to the prosecution on charges of negligent manslaughter, including a site manager in his 50s, a construction manager in his 60s, B in his 40s, a safety manager in his 40s, and a supervisor in his 60s, D.

Earlier, at about 10:10 am on February 23rd, while demolishing a chimney about 10m high at the new construction site of the Jeju University dormitory rental private investment project, a part of the building collapsed and an excavator driver in his 50s died at the site.

As a result of the police investigation, it was found that the construction company did not properly conduct a pre-construction survey for vulnerable areas such as chimneys when making a work plan.
