SBS reporters analyzed 149 first-trial judgments nationwide after the enforcement of the Stalking Punishment Act.



Most of the cases of stalking from everyday conflicts such as noise between floors or parking disputes were skipped, so stalking occurred by unilaterally expressing a crush or forcing a meeting in a relationship such as an ex-lover or couple.



There were 25 cases where they tried to break into a house or went to work.



There have also been 15 cases of hitting or injuring victims.



Even if he refused to meet, the stalker contacted him dozens of times and went to the front of his house.



Even a restraining order was issued, but this message was sent to the victim.



The punishment for this person who unilaterally contacted me after "I think I will be sentenced to prison" was a fine of 3 million won.



Nearly half of the stalkers were sentenced to probation.



One in five people was sentenced to prison, and the sentence was an average of one year and four months in prison, and the fine was an average of 2.87 million won.



Let's look at a few more notable judgments.

Sindang Station murderer Jeon Joo-hwan was convicted and sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The level of punishment that is difficult to understand, the explanation in the judgment is as follows.



74.6% of the sentences commuted for reflection, and the fact that the victim did not want or agreed to punishment was also reflected in the sentencing favorably.



Due to the nature of the crime of stalking, which is a crime of non-indictment, there were cases where only the charge of stalking was dismissed because the victim did not want to be punished even if he admitted other charges.
