Former Gyeonggi Seongnam Mayor Eun Su-mi, who was sentenced to imprisonment in the first trial for accepting an illegal request from a police officer in exchange for receiving investigation materials related to her case, appealed.



According to the legal community, former mayor Eun filed an appeal with the court on the 20th.



Former Mayor Eun was sentenced to two years in prison and a fine of 10 million won and additional 4.67 million won in the first trial on charges of bribery, acceptance, and violation of the Anti-Graft Act.



The former mayor, where she was tried without detention, was taken into custody shortly after her sentence of imprisonment.



Former Mayor Eun conspired with former policy aide Park Mo (1st trial, 7 years in prison), who was close to him, to investigate his alleged violation of the Political Fund Act in October 2018. 8 years) was charged with accepting an illegal request in exchange for an investigation secret.



In addition, she is also accused of receiving a request for personnel from another police officer (1 count, 4 years in prison), and receiving cash and wine worth 4.67 million won from Mr. Park, a policy adviser.



The first trial court said, "Even though the accused should be in charge of and direct the municipal administration and public officials as the mayor, he took part in the crime for personal gain and seriously damaged the fairness of the government-level contract. He denied everything, and strict punishment is inevitable, such as shifting responsibility for what his subordinates did for personal gain."



Former Mayor Eun, who had the last chance to speak before being arrested in court, expressed his will to appeal, saying, "The court only recognized the prosecution's position based only on testimony."



The appeal in this case will be held in the Suwon High Court.



Meanwhile, former Mayor Eun is also being investigated by the prosecution on charges of conspiring to recruit volunteers from his campaign camp in an unlawful way (obstructing the exercise of the right to abuse of power).
