A 30-year-old woman convicted of strangling and murdering her two-month-old son has been sentenced to a severe sentence.

On the 19th, the 11th Criminal Division of the Cheongju District Court (Chief Judge Kim Seung-ju) sentenced A (36), who was arrested and charged with murder, to 15 years in prison in a public participation trial.

A is accused of strangling the then two-month-old son of her then-old son at an apartment in Maengdong-myeon, Eumseong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do on March 13th.

Mr. A is said to have surrendered to the police shortly after her crime, saying that she had killed the baby.

According to the police investigation, it was determined that A committed her crimes because she could not bear her hardships.

A, who was suffering from postpartum depression, was said to have been receiving psychiatric counseling and medication for 5 years until May last year, before she found out that she was pregnant.

In the public participation trial conducted at the request of Mr. A, Mr. A's attorney admitted all the facts of her charges, but appealed to the court and jury to consider her mental and physical weakness, including postpartum depression.

However, the judge and jury did not accept it and found him guilty.

The court explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "Considering that a child is a person, not the property of the parents, and has the duty to nurture and protect, severe punishment is inevitable."
