A businessman in his 70s, known as a 'mask donation angel', was handed over to trial on charges of not paying 2.4 billion won for mask delivery and was sentenced to prison in the first trial.

Today (20th), the 23rd Criminal Settlement of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Cho Byung-gu) sentenced A, who was arrested and charged with fraud under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, to 4 years in prison.

“A” approached a mask manufacturer in April of last year and said, “We have signed an export contract overseas,” and “I will help you handle the mask inventory.” receive

Mr. A donated tens of millions of supplied masks to schools and local governments and was called the 'Mask Donation Angel'.

However, it was investigated that Mr. A has not been engaged in normal economic activities since 2007 and has not been able to pay salaries to his employees.

The prosecution judged that Mr. A held a donation event with a mask that deceived companies and gathered investors by pretending to be a powerful businessman doing good deeds.

The court said, "The contract claimed by the defendant is very crude and poor in content."

"Due to the defendant's crime, the victim went out of business and faced considerable economic hardship," he said.
