It is news that a man in his 70s, who was convicted of assault and sentenced to a fine after being pointed at a neighbor, appealed but was dismissed.

The Seoul Western District Court dismissed the appeal of Mr. A, a man in his 70s, who was sentenced to a fine of 700,000 won in the first trial for assault and confirmed the original judgment.

In January last year, Mr. A was handed over to trial on charges of following and intercepting a victim who was bringing his children to school near an apartment in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and stabbing him twice in the face.

It was investigated that Mr. A had a grudge against the victim, who was a neighbor, who reported him in the past and was punished.

The court of first instance sentenced him to a fine saying, 'The psychological shock suffered by the victim and the child is not small', and Mr. A appealed, saying 'Pointing cannot be regarded as assault and is a reasonable act that is acceptable in terms of social norms'.

However, the second trial court confirmed the original judgment based on the Supreme Court precedent that 'assault is an act that inflicts physical and mental pain on a person's body and can be established even without direct contact with the victim's body'.
