Typhoon Nanmadol, the 14th typhoon passing east of Okinawa, Japan, is expected to become strong as a super typhoon within 12 hours.

It seems to be the closest to Korea the day after tomorrow, but the intensity will be lower than that of the superpower.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Nan Madol passed 520 km east of Okinawa at 9 am today (17th).

The current central pressure is 920 hPa (hectopascals) and the maximum wind speed is 53 ㎧, so the strength is 'very strong'.

Typhoon intensity is divided based on the maximum wind speed. If it is '17 ㎧ or more and less than 25 ㎧,' the strength is not separately marked, and it is classified as 'medium-strong-very strong-super-strong' from 25 ㎧ or more.

Very strong is when the maximum wind speed is 'more than 44 ㎧ and less than 54 ㎧', and the strength of Nan Madol will increase to 'super strong' soon.

The sea that Nan Madol will pass through has a sea surface temperature of 29 to 30 degrees Celsius and a calorific value of 1 ㎤ 75 KJ (kilojoule), which is more abundant than the level required for the development of a typhoon (50 KJ).

On the path of Nan Madol, the atmosphere is also in a state of not breaking the structure of the typhoon because the difference between the wind speed and direction of the upper and lower layers is small.

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that at 9 pm tonight, when Nan Madol reached the sea 360 km northeast of Okinawa, the central pressure and maximum wind speed were 915 hPa and 55 ㎧, making it a super strong typhoon.

Nan Madol will move northwest until the 18th, then turn northeast and land in Kyushu. As it turns, the power will weaken, but the power of 'very strong typhoon' or 'strong typhoon' is expected to be maintained.

The 14th typhoon Nanmadol is expected to come closest to Korea from early morning until noon.

At this time, the central pressure is 945 hPa and the radius of the strong wind, which is the 'radius of the range where the wind blows over 15 ㎧', will reach around 400 km.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said, "As Jeju and Gyeongsang coasts fall within the strong wind radius of Nanmadol on the 18th, there is a possibility that a typhoon advisory will be issued for these areas between the afternoon of the 18th and the dawn of the 19th. This can reach 25 to 35 ㎧,” he said.
