Due to the effect of Typhoon No. 14 'Nan Madol', heavy rain is expected around the Gyeongsang Coast on the 19th, Monday, next week.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Nan Madol is advancing northwest after passing 860 km southeast of Okinawa, Japan at 9 am today (16th).

The central pressure is 955 hPa (hectopascals) and the maximum wind speed is 40 ㎧, so the strength is classified as 'strong'.

In the future, Nan Madol will pass through a high-temperature region with a sea surface temperature of 29 to 30 degrees, and will be supplied with hot and humid air from the sea.

Until Nan Madol reaches Okinawa, the difference in wind speed and direction in the upper and lower layers of the atmosphere is small, so it is unlikely that the 'typhoon circulation structure' will be broken.

It is highly likely that the power of Nan Madol will increase for the time being.

The Meteorological Agency predicts that the intensity will be 'very strong' when Nan Madol reaches the sea 470 km east of Okinawa at 9 am on the 17th.

The Korea Meteorological Administration predicted that Nanmadol would pass through Okinawa on the 18th and reach the sea southwest of Kyushu, then land in the northern part of Kyushu on the 19th and advance to the sea again on the 20th.

The forecast routes of each country's meteorological authorities and numerical forecasting models are similar to those of the Korea Meteorological Administration in a broad framework.

However, there is still a large amount of volatility, with the deviation between the predictions of the numerical forecasting model for the central location of Nan Madol reaching 200-300 km, and the deviation between the various forecasts provided by one numerical forecasting model with different initial conditions reaching 300-500 km.

Nanmadol is moving along the edge of the North Pacific High Pressure on the Japanese side.

The 12th typhoon 'Muipa', which had an impact on the phase and range of the North Pacific high pressure, lost its status as a typhoon 210 km northeast of Qingdao, China at 9 am today and weakened to a temperate cyclone.

The time when Nan Madol is closest to the Korean Peninsula is expected between 00:00 and the morning of the 19th.

As Nan Madol approaches, there will be strong winds and storms in the southern and eastern seas.

Wave heights in the southern and eastern seas may exceed 10m, and a storm surge may strike Jeju, and waves may cross the breakwater in the Gyeongsang and East coasts.

On land, strong winds and heavy rain are expected around the Gyeongsang Coast.

In Jeju and Gyeongsang coast, the maximum instantaneous wind speed can reach 20~30㎧ when Nanmadol approaches.

It is expected that the rain will fall by 30~80mm centered on the Gyeongsang Coast, and up to 120mm in places where the influence of the topography is added.

The heaviest rain falls from 00:00 to the morning of the 19th, when the maximum amount of precipitation per hour will reach 30-50mm.
