While coach Lee Kyu-hyeon (42), a former figure skating national, was arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a minor student and caused a stir, the fact that he had excessively touched the body of a minor student in the past is being re-examined.

The Uijeongbu District Prosecutor's Office, Namyangju Branch 1st Criminal Division (Director Jeong-suk Son) announced today (7th) that they had arrested and indicted Lee in the middle of last month for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

Lee is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage disciple he taught earlier this year.

Initially, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul investigated the case and arrested Lee without detention and sent it to the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, but it was transferred to the Namyangju District Office, the address of Mr. Lee early last month.

The Namyangju District Office, which took over the case, determined that the crime was bad and requested an arrest warrant, and the court issued a warrant for destruction of evidence and fears of fleeing.

Lee, who is currently imprisoned in Uijeongbu Prison, is known to deny the allegation of sexual assault.

Meanwhile, in 2016, Lee was embroiled in a sexual harassment controversy by making excessive physical contact with an underage student.

During the 2017 International Skating Union (ISU) Figure Skating Junior Competition held in September 2016, Lee became a controversial figure as he wrapped around the waist and patted the buttocks of an underage student at the time.

Also known as the younger brother of former speed skater Lee Kyu-hyuk, Lee has a record of participating in the Winter Olympics twice in a row, including Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake in 2002.
