Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongju, which suffered heavy damage from Typhoon Hinnamno, were declared special disaster zones.
The presidential office said, "President Yun Seok-yeol first declared the two areas as special disaster zones immediately after returning to the Yongsan presidential office after visiting the Pohang and Gyeongju sites."
Regarding the prompt decision made within one day of the typhoon damage, the presidential office explained that the decision was made in consideration of the massive damage in the two regions, the severity of inconvenience to residents, and the results of a preliminary damage investigation.
The government plans to declare additional special disaster zones as soon as it is confirmed that the requirements are met through damage investigations in other areas.
