A fire broke out today (the 6th) at the POSCO Pohang Works in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Typhoon 'Hinnamno' was a fire when it passed through the southern part of the Korean Peninsula, so investigations into the relationship with the typhoon are ongoing.

According to POSCO and others, a fire broke out at the 2nd stainless steel (STS) steel and 2nd hot rolling mill in POSCO Pohang Works in Nam-gu, Pohang-si, around 7:17 am today.

The Gyeongbuk Fire Department said that a fire broke out in the main electrical room of the 2nd hot rolling mill, and all of the electrical rooms were burnt.

Four firefighters were isolated due to heavy rain during the firefighting process of the Pohang Works' own fire brigade, but the fire department said it was in a safe condition.

While the company is focusing on extinguishing the fire, it is investigating whether the typhoon and fire are related.

Although it is not directly related to the fire, as the company's facilities were shut down, POSCO carried out so-called defense work by burning and discharging the by-product gas as there was a risk of explosion.

The fire that occurred at this time was seen in various places within the Pohang Works, and it was mistaken for a fire inside the factory.

A company official said, "The current fire seen from the outside is the burning of by-product gas generated as a by-product in the production process, and is not directly related to the fire at this factory."

According to the forecast yesterday that Hinnamno would pass through Pohang, POSCO announced that it would suspend all factories, including the blast furnace, on today, when the impact of the typhoon is expected to be greatest.

Factory downtime is approximately 4 to 5 hours when typhoons peak.

A company official said, "There are fires in two factories, and we are investigating the current situation."
