Today (31st) around 3:40 pm, an explosion occurred at SK Geocentric, a synthetic resin manufacturing plant in Nam-gu, Ulsan.

The fire department confirmed that 7 people were injured in the accident and there were burns.

Among them, it is known that some seriously injured second-degree burns.

According to witnesses, black smoke spread with a roar at the time of the explosion, and shock waves were felt in apartments and buildings near the petrochemical complex, but fire officials explained that there was no fire.

The fire department does not currently believe there is a risk of further explosions or spread of combustion, and is checking to see if there are any more casualties.

The fire department assumes that the explosion occurred due to excessive pressure during the synthetic resin regeneration process and is investigating the exact cause.

The SK geocentric plant, where the accident occurred, is a subsidiary of SK innovation's eco-friendly chemical business and is located in the Ulsan petrochemical complex.

At the SK Geocentric Ulsan Plant, on April 20, while cleaning the toluene storage tank, an internal fire and casualties occurred.
