45 freshmen?

The saying that schools are closing because there are no students, Seoul is no exception.

There are 45 new students this year at Dobong High School in Seoul, and I read a lot of articles saying that it will eventually close.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Dobong High is scheduled to be consolidated with nearby schools in 2024, when sophomores graduate now.

It was located at the northern end of Dobong-gu, Seoul, so it was relatively low in preference, but above all, the impact of population decline was the biggest.

The population of Dobong-gu has decreased by 8.5% in the past five years.

Even that, 12 students in the first semester of this year transferred, and the remaining 33 were transferred to nearby schools.

For this reason, it has been decided that the current Dobong High School will be maintained until the 2nd and 3rd graders graduate.

Dobong High School is the first time that general high schools have been consolidated and closed in Seoul. Now, there is growing concern that Seoul cannot be free from the aftermath of the 'reducing school-age population'.
