As a result of the accident, nine students, teaching assistants, and faculty members in the laboratory complained of nausea and headaches, and 119 paramedics took them to the hospital, but it was confirmed that none of them were life-threatening.
Police and fire departments are investigating the exact cause of the accident, believing that one 500cc container fell to the floor while disposing of the formalin reagent stored in the laboratory.
As a flammable, colorless substance, formalin is used as a disinfectant and preservative.
