RIP little drone gone too soon.

Snap Inc. announced on Thursday that it is discontinuing Pixy, its futuristic selfie drone.

The small high-tech object was unveiled to Snapchat users only last April, reports

Wall Street Journal

.

Company CEO Evan Spiegel announced the news during a question-and-answer session with his employees, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Snap Inc. has indeed suffered like many other tech giants the effects of the global economic crisis and must make choices for the future.

#Snapchat is canceling all future development of its #Pixy flying camera drone which is used to take selfies… even though the product was only publicly launched 4 months ago!

Sacrifice Pixy for shareholders

The small yellow drone equipped with several cameras and capable of circling around the user or tracking him will therefore not have a version 2 as initially planned.

Sold for 250 euros, only in France and the United States, it will remain available on the Snapchat online store, probably while stocks last.

In the second quarter, Snap Inc. posted a net loss of $422 million despite a surge in users,

01net

reports .

Its stock market fell following the publication of the results and the company had to undertake to review its operating expenses to reassure its shareholders.

It is therefore Pixy (among others?) who will have paid the price.
