Amid heightened tensions between the US and China due to the recent visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan, US Senators and Senators visited Taiwan again.

A backlash from China is expected.

delegation of five members of the U.S. Congress, including Democratic Senator Ed Markey, arrived at Taipei Airport in Taiwan on the evening of the 14th.



As part of our Indo-Pacific tour, we plan to discuss regional security, trade and investment with high-ranking Taiwanese officials.



A meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen is also scheduled this morning.



This visit is only 11 days after Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.



China, which regards Taiwan as its territory, strongly protested against Pelosi's visit and held a large-scale armed demonstration, including military exercises, and declared a cessation of dialogue and cooperation with the United States in eight points.



The American Association of Taiwan Americans, the US embassy in Taiwan, said in a statement that it was "a visit that once again demonstrates the unwavering support of the US Congress toward Taiwan."



With the impact of Chairman Pelosi's visit to Taiwan still lingering, the Chinese embassy in the United States repeatedly criticized the visit as demonstrating that the United States does not want stability in the Taiwan Strait.
