As in camping, there are cases where people light a fire and enjoy indoors, but recently, related accidents have been occurring one after another.

This is especially true when using ethanol, which is not easily visible in flames and explodes easily.

Reporter Minjun Kim reports.

leather chair was burnt and tanned.

Two men in their 30s suffered second-degree burns in a fire in an apartment in Seo-gu, Incheon, at dawn today (8th).

Black smoke constantly rising out of the apartment window, and in January, an apartment in Daejeon also caught fire and burned or inhaled smoke. Seven residents were taken to the hospital.

Both fires were caused by an ethanol furnace.

It led to a dizzying accident after smoking an ethanol brazier to do the so-called 'firemong' at an outdoor camping site at home, and similar damage has been increasing recently.

Let's take a look at why ethanol furnaces are dangerous, with experts.

It's hard to see with the naked eye, but it's burning like this.

If it's broad daylight, it's obscured by the sun, so you can't see the fire any more.

At this time, it was thought that it had been completely extinguished, and it led to a major fire while refueling.

[Lee Eun / Professor, Department of Fire Safety, Hoseo University: Since ethanol is alcohol, its volatile power is much stronger.

It is dangerous because it evaporates when poured and remains in a vapor state, which can easily cause a fire or explosion even at low temperatures.]

After using an ethanol furnace, be careful not to light a lighter in the vicinity.

Since the ethanol is vaporized by the heat of the furnace and is in the air, it may lead to a fire if you do not wait for the heat to cool down.

[Lee Seong-koo / Research Fellow, Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology: Liquid and gas coexist in ethanol storage containers, and gas diffuses faster than liquid, so it is more dangerous because it spreads quickly when ignited.]

Unlike Europe and Australia, Korea is also a problem for the lack of relevant safety standards.

According to the Australian standards, which must weigh 8 kg and have a floor area of at least 900 cm2, none of the 7 products on the market met the standards.

It's light and the bottom is narrow, so the brazier can easily fall over.

Experts advised that you must follow the user's manual and keep a fire extinguisher nearby before use.
