Ahn Hee-jung (58), former governor of Chungnam, who was sentenced to prison for raping an attendant, was released from the Gyeonggi Yeoju Prison at around 7:55 am today (4th).

He was sentenced to three years and six months in prison by the Supreme Court in September 2019, completing all his sentences.

Ahn, wearing a white shirt and black top and bottom suits, was holding a transparent bag with personal items in his left hand.

As soon as he left the main gate, former Governor Ahn greeted by shaking hands with about 10 people, including his hometown friends, who were waiting for him.

Former Governor Ahn bowed once to greet reporters and did not answer reporters' questions about his feelings after being released from prison.

He got into the car that was waiting in front of the front door and left.

Today, about 60 acquaintances visited the prison, including Rep. Kang Jun-hyeon and Kim Jong-min of the Democratic Party, who were known as friends from school days of former Governor Ahn.

In April 2018, former Governor Ahn was indicted on charges of adultery and forced molestation of a supervised person, and sexual harassment by force under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

While in prison, he was temporarily released after receiving the death of his mother in July 2020 and the death of his father in March of this year.

In accordance with the Public Official Election Act and the Act on the Effectiveness of Sentence, Governor Ahn cannot run for office for 10 years after release.
