A nurse working at Seoul Asan Hospital, the largest general hospital in Korea, died of a cerebral hemorrhage.

At that time, there was no doctor in the hospital to treat him, so he was transferred to another hospital, but eventually died.

The government decided to investigate whether the transfer procedure was appropriate.

Medical reporter Yoo Seung-hyeon covered the story.

At 6 am on the 24th of last month.

Nurse A at Asan Medical Center in Seoul visited the emergency room of the hospital with a severe headache right after work.

Emergency room medical staff immediately diagnosed cerebral hemorrhage, and a neurosurgeon on-call came down and attempted embolization to stop the bleeding.

However, the bleeding did not stop, and Asan Hospital eventually rushed him to the emergency room of Seoul National University Hospital, which is about 10 km away.

However, Mr. A did not recover in the end at Seoul National University Hospital and died after 7 days.

An Asan Hospital official said, "One out of three doctors in the cerebrovascular field went to a foreign conference, one was on vacation, and the other gave first aid." We had no choice but to decide the power supply.”

However, the Asan Hospital labor union and the Korean Nursing Association insisted, "We must clearly disclose the response of the medical staff on the day and the time it took to transfer."

Some of the Asan Hospital employees said, "Isn't it because they were nurses, not doctors, so there wasn't enough action?"

The controversy led to the National Assembly.

[Seo Young-seok / Democratic Party Member: As a health officer, do you think this is possible?

Aren't we supposed to investigate the truth?]

[Ki-il Lee/Second Vice Minister of Health and Welfare: Yes, I understand.

We will investigate that.]

The medical community takes this incident as an opportunity to re-examine the emergency system of general hospitals and emphasize that a solution to the shortage of surgeons should be prepared.
