Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min visited Namdaemun Jjokbang Village and Gwangjang Market in Seoul on the afternoon of the 1st and checked the situation in preparation for the heat wave.



Minister Lee visited Namdaemun Jjokbang Village to check the status and operation of indoor and outdoor shelter facilities in the sweltering heat, and listened to the conditions of operation of air conditioning facilities such as air conditioners and the difficulties of residents in the sweltering heat.



The Ministry of Public Administration and Security has decided to provide additional support for disaster safety special tax of KRW 2 billion to extend the operation of shelters for the underprivileged and to expand the installation of heat wave reduction facilities such as shade screens and water mist spraying devices.



Minister Lee also visited Gwangjang Market in Jongno-gu to examine the response to heatwaves in traditional markets in summer and the installation of heatwave reduction facilities.



Minister Lee is also planning to purchase peaches, seaweed, and Bindae-tteok from Gwangjang Market and send them to the elderly and the infirm in Namdaemun’s jjokbang village as items of encouragement and to the intensive care subjects and employees.



Minister Lee originally planned a summer vacation this week, but canceled the vacation tomorrow to establish a new police station and check the heat wave response status.
