It is controversial by marketing a photo zone with a dead shark in the seafood corner of an E-Mart store in Seoul.

On the 30th of last month, photos of sightings were uploaded to various online communities and SNS that 'a shark photo zone was opened at Yongsan E-Mart'.

In the released photo, a dead shark with a huge body was placed on the ice.

At that time, Mr. A, who used the mart, said, "(From the shark carcass) blood continued to flow, so there was something like a saucer."

The shark in question was for a photo zone, not for sale. Next to the dead shark, there was a signboard saying 'E-Mart Yongsan store only event (photo zone)'.

On the signboard, phrases for taking pictures were written, such as 'wear the provided doll hat' and 'post the picture you took on Instagram', and next to it was a shark-shaped doll mask that you can wear on your head.

Also attached was an image of Pinkfong's 'Baby Shark', a character popular with young children.

Enlarging an image

Netizens who saw the photo commented, "If you display a shark carcass with the Pinkfong character, children who visit the mart will be shocked", "Why do you have to display it even though it's not for eating?", "Only for display and publicity, not for edible purposes." The problem is that we used dead sharks for this purpose.”

Conversely, there were reactions such as "Sharks are fish anyway," and "Isn't there a tuna dismantling show?"

On the other hand, as the controversy over the 'dead shark photo zone' grew, E-Mart Yongsan branch immediately deleted the SNS post promoting the event, and it was reported that the shark carcass was also withdrawn in the afternoon of the same day.

An E-Mart official said, "We apologize for not understanding customers' emotions in the exhibition and store operation."
