An additional domestic infection with the BA.2.75 mutation, which is known to have the highest transmission power, has been confirmed.
The fourth infected person, in his twenties living in North Chungcheong Province, had completed the third vaccination.
This infected person is an acquaintance of the second foreign patient who arrived from India on the 5th.
Quarantine authorities estimate that contact occurred at the airport, and it is expected to be classified as the first case of infection in the region.
After being confirmed on the 13th, the quarantine was lifted on the 20th after being treated at home.
The quarantine authorities are conducting additional epidemiological investigations.
While the BA.5 mutation, which spreads faster than the stealth omicron, has effectively become the dominant species in Korea, if it spreads to BA.2.75, which is faster than this, the size of the epidemic could be larger.
Yesterday (24th), there were 35,883 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, 29,000 fewer than the previous day.
However, it is 1.4 times the same day of the week last week and 2.8 times compared to two weeks ago.
