“According to WHO, monkeypox poses a moderate risk worldwide and in all regions, with the exception of the European region, where we assess the risk as high,” Ghebreyesus said at a press conference following the second meeting of the WHO emergency committee.

Ghebreyesus had previously declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency.

On July 12, the first case of monkeypox was confirmed in Russia.

The disease was detected in a citizen who returned from a trip to Europe.
