Recently, melons are floating in the Nakdong River.

It was thrown away by nearby farmers, but there are concerns about water pollution.

It is none other than melons that people are working hard to rescue from this place full of green algae.

It's floating around here and there.

This time, I went to a drainage canal in nearby Seongju-gun, and people are picking melons here too.

The reason for picking melons is to reduce water pollution in the Nakdong River.

Most are rotten melons, but melons, which are organic masses, can cause artificial eutrophication in rivers.

Simply put, it is a phenomenon in which there are too many nutrients in the water.

Because of this, if phytoplankton increases significantly, algae can form and adversely affect the river ecosystem.

The reason why so many melons float in the Nakdong River is that some farmers dumped rotten or unproductive melons into drains or rivers.

Rotten melons are considered food waste, so of course it is illegal.

However, it is said that more melons are thrown away this year.

[Mr. A / Farmer of melon cultivation in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk: It is the first time this year for me to see a large amount of melons floating on the riverside even if I see one or two.] The

reason is presumed to be climate change.

[Chilgok-gun official: According to what farmers are saying this year, because the climate is uneven, the quality that cannot be sold (melons) was produced in small quantities.

(Lung melons) This year, due to climate change, there has been a sudden increase in the number of melons, and that has been the case with some farms that are difficult to deal with (I heard that).]

[Mr. It doesn't form normally, and it seems that there are more water-dried mulchangwa as I go on compared to the past.

So, I think some unconscious farmers threw them into the waterway.]

Due to the nature of the countryside with many remote areas, it is not easy to crack down on illegal dumpers.

I hope to see the clear and clean Nakdong River in the future.
