Smoking area near Yeouido Station in Seoul.

People are exposed to secondhand smoke as people pass by groups of people who smoke.

[Worker A: You are inhaling many carcinogens unintentionally.

I'm also anxious

It's unpleasant.]

The first domestic experiment on secondhand smoke was conducted, and the one that needed the most attention was the liquid e-cigarette.

The concentration of fine dust emitted was in the order of liquid type, e-cigarette, general cigarette, and cigarette type e-cigarette.

The concentration of ultrafine dust was 12 times higher in liquid e-cigarettes than regular cigarettes and 55 times higher than cigarette-type e-cigarettes.

The ultra-fine dust from liquid e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes decreased to the standard concentration by keeping a distance of 100m from smokers.

It was also confirmed that harmful substances such as black carbon are emitted from e-cigarettes.

[Lim Young-wook/Professor of Environmental Pollution Research Institute, Yonsei University: Most of the pollutants that are incompletely burned from dust or cigarettes contained in it are the ingredients that have little smell or feel like incense, even if people perceive them.]

The research team recommended a distance of 3 meters or more from smokers, and suggested that children's facilities vulnerable to secondhand smoke should be set as non-smoking areas up to 30 meters outside.

The current law stipulates that non-smoking areas near kindergartens and daycare centers are within 10 meters.

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission recommended a plan to expand the non-smoking zone to within 30 meters of daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools two years ago, and amendments to related laws were submitted several times, but they were not passed.
