The family of Lee Dae-jun, a public official who was attacked in the West Sea, raised an objection to the police dismissing or dismissing the charges against former Commissioner of the Coast Guard Kim Hong-hee and Namhae Maritime Police Commissioner Yoon Seong-hyeon, saying that they had defamed their reputation with false facts.

Accordingly, the prosecution will take over the case and re-investigate it.

In connection with the complaint filed by the bereaved family, on May 23, the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's regional investigation team made a decision to dismiss former Commissioner Kim with no charge and Commissioner Yoon without charges.

The bereaved family said that the Coast Guard not only mentioned Lee's gambling debts in a briefing on the results of the interim investigation in September 2020, but also said, "It is judged that he fled North Korea for the purpose of escaping from reality in a state of mental panic," and defamed Lee and his family. I filed a complaint in October of last year.

At that time, the briefing was conducted by Commissioner Yoon, head of the investigation and intelligence department of the Coast Guard, and the bereaved family sued former Commissioner Kim together, saying that they would also ask the commander to be responsible.

The police said that the information on Lee's debt announced by the Coast Guard at the time cited data from the Korea Credit Information Service and the Ulsan District Court, and that the term 'mental panic' was confirmed to be quoting an expert's opinion.

The police decided not to acquit, on May 23, about three weeks before the Coast Guard held an apology interview saying that they could not find any evidence to confirm Mr. Lee's intention to defect to North Korea.

In the statement of reasons for the objection, the bereaved family said, "The gambling debt cannot be accurately determined through the court data cited by the police, and there is a big difference from the results of the investigation by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea." criticized it.

In addition, "The Human Rights Commission also pointed out that the announcement of the Coast Guard was based on speculation and prediction."

The prosecution, which has been handed over the reasons for the objection from the police, is planning to directly investigate soon.
