The small loudspeakers would decorate any recording studio, we judged 15 months ago and meant the active streaming loudspeaker LS 50 from the English brand KEF.

The compact little one achieved outstanding sharpness of image with a Uni-Q coaxial combination sound transducer for high and low tones, a distinguishing feature of the house.

Now KEF has provided the little one with a larger model called the LS 60 Wireless, which also works with the Uni-Q chassis, but whose voice is said to be even more bass-powered with an additional low-frequency section.

Wouldn't a separate subwoofer have done the trick?

no

The charm of the coaxial chassis is that all frequencies, from the overtones to the fundamentals, are created in one place.

All sound events thus reach the ears of the listener without any time delay.

The four woofers in the new LS 60, each 13 centimeters in size, are intended to expand this concept to include the very deep bass.

They sit so close together that they send their bass vibrations into the room almost like a single sound source.

The drive magnets of the opposite woofers are directly connected to each other.

Forces that could cause the chassis to vibrate cancel each other out, and the speaker cabinet remains stoically quiet.

Another advantage of this construction: the boxes could be kept extraordinarily slim.

The chest-high LS 60 are just 13 centimeters wide.

The new model accepts the music in just as many ways as the LS 50 model. Mobile devices can play the speakers directly via the Apple Airplay 2 or Google Chromecast WLAN radio, Bluetooth also works.

The app belonging to the system also connects to the respective apps of the streaming services Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, Qobuz and Deezer.

Wired sources are also used, via an optical and a coaxial digital connection, an analog jack and an HDMI interface for the TV sound.

The LS 60 tolerates music in the highest resolution, 384 kilohertz and 24 bits are maximum key data, serial DSD 256 data streams and MQA coding are also accepted.

With their concert test performance, the LS 60 literally outgrew their bodies.

We would hardly have expected such a deep bass power from these narrow loudspeakers.

However, we were able to recognize the proven Uni-Q properties here as well.

The new ones place the music just as sensitively and precisely, seemingly with millimeter precision in space as the smaller LS 50. However, their pair price is also impressive.

The dealer writes 6600 euros on the bill.

You almost lose sight and hearing.
