A rising sun flag pattern has appeared in a popular drama recently released by Netflix, causing controversy.
Professor Seo Kyung-duk of Sungshin Women's University said yesterday (30th), 'After the Netflix original series Umbrella Academy season 3 was released, many netizens have reported that they have seen the Rising Sun flag several times in the play.
The Rising Sun Flag is a military flag used by Japan during World War II, and has been criticized for being an imperialist war criminal flag.
Professor Seo said that she sent an email to Netflix asking them to delete or replace the scene in which the flag of the rising sun appears as soon as possible.
She explained, 'In a situation where the drama is popular with people around the world, such as rising to the top of the global rankings, the historical meaning of Wook's Diary may be misrepresented to viewers, so it must be corrected.'
This isn't the first time Netflix's Rising Sun Flag has been controversial.
Last year, the Rising Sun flag pattern appeared in the Japanese animation, Blade of Destruction, and became a problem, so it was corrected in the Korean version, but it was not corrected in other countries, causing controversy.
