The Democratic Party of Korea denied the claim that the presidential office of the Yoon Seok-yeol government was involved in the process of overturning the results of the investigation into the murder of a public official in the West Sea by the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard said on the 16th that it had not received any guidance from the National Security Office regarding the announcement of the final investigation result in the murder of a public official in the West Sea.

Earlier yesterday (28th), Rep. Kim Byung-ju, head of the task force related to the murder of a public official in the West Sea of the Democratic Party, said at the National Assembly, "On the 16th, during a joint press conference that the Coast Guard and the Ministry of National Defense could not find any evidence to support North Korea, the National Security Office provided data. There are circumstances in which we reviewed and discussed related contents.”

The Coast Guard released an interim investigation result that it was determined that Lee Dae-joon, an official of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, was shot and killed by North Korean soldiers in September 2020, and that he was believed to have fled North Korea in September 2020.

However, on the 16th, after 1 year and 9 months, the Coast Guard overturned the investigation result saying that they could not find Lee's intention to defect to North Korea.
