According to the ESA, in July it is planned to hold a meeting of the Council of the member countries of the agency, following which the European side will decide on the future of the project.

“The final decision on the further implementation of the Mars exploration project, including with possible international participation, will be made by Roscosmos after receiving official information from the ESA on the results of the mentioned meeting of the ESA member countries,” the press service of the Russian state corporation says.

In March, the ruling council of the European Space Agency declared it impossible to continue cooperation with the state corporation Roscosmos on the ExoMars mission due to Russia's special operation in Ukraine.

According to the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, the corporation's specialists contacted ESA representatives and held talks on resuming the mission.

The main objective of the mission is to search for traces of past or present life on Mars, as well as to improve understanding of the various periods of the existence of water on the planet.
