Commissioner Jeong Bong-hoon of the Korea Coast Guard has apologized to the public in connection with the investigation into the 'West Sea Murdered Public Official' incident in September 2020.

Commissioner Jeong said, "I sincerely apologize to the people and bereaved families for causing a lot of misunderstanding regarding the announcement of the results of the investigation into the public officials who were attacked," he said at the lobby on the 1st floor of the Coast Guard Office on the afternoon of the 22nd.

He added, "As the Commissioner of the Coast Guard, I feel deeply responsible for causing confusion and disappointment with the announcement of the investigation by the Coast Guard."

Commissioner Jeong's announcement of his position on this day was made abruptly after meeting with members of the 'Fact-Finding Task Force (TF) of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries'.

Chairman Ha Tae-kyung and other members of the People's Strength TF strongly criticized the Coast Guard, saying, "In this case, the principle of presumption of innocence was applied, not the principle of presumption of innocence."
