In March, a man in his 60s, who was arrested on charges of starting forest fires in Okgye and Donghae, Gangneung, Gangwon, was sentenced to a heavy prison sentence in the first trial.

The 2nd Criminal Division of the Gangneung Branch of the Chuncheon District Law (Chief Judge Lee Dong-hee) sentenced Lee, who was charged with violating the Forest Protection Act, to 12 years in prison today (9th).

The court explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, "I usually committed crimes with an unfair mind."

He added, "We should be held accountable for that," he added.

Lee was handed over to trial on the charge of setting fires to his home, empty house, and warehouse with torches in Okgye-myeon, Gangneung, around 1 am on March 5th, and then set fires to the forest as well, causing a large forest fire.

As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that Mr. Lee was caught in a delusion of victimization in an isolated living environment and committed the crime by expressing accumulated hostility toward the residents to the extreme.
