The investigation into the shootings of the police who killed the passenger of a vehicle in Paris on Saturday and injured the driver who had refused to comply during a check, was entrusted to an investigating judge on Tuesday, announced the public prosecutor of Paris.

For his part, the driver suspected of having refused the control was placed in police custody.

In the case of the refusal to comply in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, the three police shooters came out of police custody on Tuesday noon, without prosecution at this stage, after being questioned by investigators from the IGPN, the police of fonts.

But the investigation is far from over, a judicial investigation has been opened by the Paris prosecutor's office, in particular for intentional violence by a person holding public authority having caused death without the intention of giving it.

But what does that mean?

The police placed under the status of assisted witness?

Concretely, this means that an independent investigating judge will now investigate, both incriminating and exculpatory, to "precisely retrace the course of events and determine the exact circumstances of the use of their weapon by the police", writes the Paris prosecutor's office in a press release.

In view of the chief of investigation chosen, the intention to homicide of the police officers has not been retained at this stage.

The three officials, aged 23, 31 and 32, are not currently indicted, but this could change during the investigation.

They could also be placed under the less incriminating status of assisted witness.

The driver in custody

We must now wait for the results of the technical examinations already carried out, such as the use of video surveillance, to hear more witnesses, in particular the driver of the vehicle who was placed in police custody at the hospital yesterday.

Hit in the chest, he was alcoholic and under the influence of narcotics at the time of the facts, while he was serving a sentence on semi-freedom.
