A 30-year-old man was discovered in a state of cardiac arrest overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in a working-class district of Nîmes.

The victim was shot and evacuated by firefighters before being declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

An investigation has been opened for "homicide".

A 30-year-old man was shot dead overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in a working-class district of Nîmes (Gard), Mas de Mingue, sources close to the investigation said.

Alerted by a witness around 11:30 p.m. for a "man on the ground, on the public highway", the emergency services discovered him in a state of cardiac arrest, injured by firearm, according to these sources.

The victim "known to the authorities"

Evacuated by the firefighters, he was declared dead on his arrival at the university hospital center in Nîmes.

The victim "is known to the authorities," said a source close to the investigators, without further details.

An investigation for "homicide" was opened and entrusted to the judicial police of Montpellier.
