The special prosecutor's team to investigate the death of the late Sergeant Lee Ye-ram was officially launched today (5th).

The investigation can be carried out for up to 100 days in the future, and it seems that the investigation will be focused on the poor initial investigation and the suspicion of secondary perpetrators.

Reporter Kim Kwan-jin reports.

On the first day that the special prosecutor's team investigating the death of Sergeant Lee Ye-ram began their official work, special prosecutor Ahn Mi-young and assistant prosecutors Yoo Byung-doo, Lee Tae-seung and Son Young-eun went to work at the office in Migeun-dong, Seoul.

They are said to have held an informal meeting and discussed future investigation plans.

The special prosecutor's team reviewed over 50,000 pages of investigation data handed over by the Ministry of National Defense and the National Human Rights Commission during the 20-day preparation period.

If the 10 dispatched prosecutors join the day after tomorrow, a full-scale investigation, including summoning investigations, is expected.

It seems that the special prosecutor's team will focus on figuring out who is responsible for the poor initial investigation in this case.

The Ministry of National Defense prosecuted 15 people after criminally arresting 25 people involved in October last year.

[Lee Joo-wan / late Sergeant Lee Ye-ram's father (last October): Strangely, the number of non-indictments increases by one or two.

after the announcement of the interim investigation.

There was no evidence, and something was wrong, so the prosecution was dismissed.

Then, shouldn't we be looking for (evidence)?]

We plan to conduct an investigation to find out the reality of the second perpetrator.

Sergeant Lee made an extreme choice after three days of exclusivity after suffering harsh acts from the 15th Squadron, which was transferred after the assault.

At that time, military officials suspected of secondary harm were also not brought to trial, and the Human Rights Commission has recommended that further investigation into this matter is necessary.

The special prosecutor must complete the investigation within 70 days by August 13, but if the president approves, the investigation can be continued for another 30 days.
