Captain Lee Geun, who joined the Ukraine International Volunteer Army, arrived at Incheon International Airport this morning (27th).

It has been more than three months since he left the country to fight the Russian invasion.

Lee suffered injuries to both cruciate ligaments in both knees while performing operations in the field and returned home for rehabilitation. He said he had gone to Ukraine to protect civilians.

[Lee Geun/Reserve Captain: I didn't go to fight, I went to protect people.

Actually, he saw a lot of crime and criminal activity because of the war.]

He said that he wanted to go back to Ukraine as soon as the treatment was finished.

[Lee Geun/Reserve Captain: We have to keep fighting...

He wants to go back to Ukraine because he feels this way.]

He said he was offered Ukrainian citizenship, but he said he was Korean and turned it down because he thought it was not right to get citizenship to avoid fines or trials.

In early March, Lee left for Ukraine with four people, and the government, which has banned travel to Ukraine since mid-February, charged them with violating the passport law.

Except for Mr. Lee, four people returned to Korea after about a week after leaving the country and were interrogated by the police before being sent to the prosecution.

The police, who immediately banned the departure from the country upon entry, conducted an interview with Mr. Lee at the airport.

A police official said, "Considering the progress of treatment and health, we will summon Mr. Lee as soon as the self-quarantine period is over."
