The National Police has dissolved a 'performance'

at the door of the Virgen de la Luz church

in Cuenca with several half-naked people and with religious symbols.

The events occurred this Monday morning in front of the temple, in the San Antón neighborhood of the capital of Cuenca, sources from this security body have confirmed to Efe.

As some images shared on social networks also show, a person appears on the scene with Marian symbols and five others crouched down, with a kind of mare's tail between their bare buttocks, brushing the ground.

The scene could be a "performance" project in which women are summoned in public spaces with a mare's tail as a

"counter-sexual prosthesis"

, according to the Chilean Yeguada Latinoamericana initiative.

They seek to "subvert and challenge classist, patriarchal, colonial and speciesist regimes,

through performance as a language," according to their website.

Since 2017, the artist Yeguada Latinoamericana has called on women and sexual dissidents to participate in actions in public spaces, using a mare's tail "as a counter-sexual prosthesis."

"Disrespect"

The Bishopric of Cuenca has declined to make any statements about the performances that the Yeguada Latinoamericana group has carried out this Monday

at the gates of the Cathedral and several temples in the city

, but has highlighted "the lack of respect for such emblematic places."

Sources from the Cuenca diocese consulted by Europa Press, in this way, have highlighted "the lack of respect for places that are so emblematic and loved by the people of Cuenca."

At the same time, they have also highlighted "the bad taste and vulgarity of the act" that has been carried out both at the

doors of the Cuenca Cathedral

as well as in the

Virgen de la Luz church

and at the doors of the temple of the monastery of the

Immaculate of the Franciscan Conceptionists

in the Puerta de Valencia.
