Yonhap News reported that a dead infant was found at a garbage collection point in an apartment complex early in the morning and the police launched an investigation.
The Dongdaemun Police Station in Seoul received a report that there was a garbage bag containing a newborn baby at a separate collection point in an apartment complex in Dongdaemun-gu around 6:24 am on the 13th of this month.
A newborn baby was found dead when an employee of a cleaning service company picked up a garbage bag and loaded it into the vehicle, when the bag burst and spilled the contents.
The baby was said to have been naked with the umbilical cord attached.
The ambulance dispatched after receiving the report checked the condition of the baby, but it was already dead.
A police official said, "We are looking for the culprit who abandoned the baby by analyzing the surrounding CCTV."
