From next year, the school uniform design of 15 schools in Jeju is scheduled to change.

That's because British luxury brand Burberry has filed a trademark infringement claim on the checkered pattern of school uniforms.

Today (9th), according to the Jeju Provincial Office of Education, etc., it was ordered to change the design of the uniforms of 15 schools (8 middle schools and 7 high schools) that used a pattern similar to 'Burberry check' on school uniforms in the province.

Previously, in 2019, Burberry filed a trademark infringement suit against the school uniform manufacturer, stating that 'a school uniform company is using a pattern similar to the checkered pattern registered by Burberry'.

In response, Burberry and the school uniform maker have agreed to use fabrics with patterns similar to Burberry checks until this year and stop using them from next year.

According to the agreement, schools using the patterned school uniform have started the process of changing the design of the school uniform.

However, the current students will wear the uniforms they have already purchased, and from next year, the new students will purchase the newly designed uniforms.

It is known that there are about 200 schools across the country that are in a similar situation, including Jeju.

An official from the education office said, "Each school is pushing for changes to the school uniform design by collecting opinions from students and parents."

This is a 'news pick'.
