As consumers complained that Starbucks paper straws had a strange smell, it was confirmed that Starbucks Korea had recovered all of the straws in question.

Since the end of last month, online communities have been posting articles about the smell of volatile chemicals such as paint or bond, such as 'Starbucks paper straws smell of gasoline' and 'It tastes strange when I plug it in'.

As some customers protested, Starbucks Korea was reported to have recalled all the straws on the 25th of last month.

There are three companies that supply paper straws, and Starbucks Korea explains that one of them had a problem with a straw manufactured at a specific time.

It is said that there was an evaluation that paper straws quickly become brittle, so the mixing ratio of the coating solution was adjusted to enhance strength, which caused odor problems.

A Starbucks official explained, 'The ingredients of the paper straws have been tested by an accredited inspection agency and are a product whose safety has been verified' and that it is 'harmless to the human body'.
