Even on a day like today (the 5th), where all children are the main characters, there are children who cannot smile broadly.

For the month of May, we will focus on what can be done to prevent children who have been hurt by adults from getting sick again.

First, we will go to a children's shelter where children who have been abused by their parents are evacuated.

A place where children, who could not find a comfortable home, are staying, will need sufficient support, but what is the reality? Reporter Park Se-won covered a day at the shelter.

The lights in the shelter are turned on from dawn.

[Mr A/Nursery teacher: (From what time are you preparing like this?) (A child) is a middle school student, so he has to wake up at 6 o’clock, but today we have field trips…

.]

Two elementary school students and one middle school student who were victims of abuse live here.

[Mr. A/Nursery teacher: Aren't you going to go to the bathroom first?

Sister goes first.

Shall I wake you up first?]

[Child: I will go.

(Yes, say hello out loud.)]

Ms. B, who came to the shelter 8 months ago.

At first, I was afraid to fall asleep alone, but I'm slowly recovering my stability.

[Miss B: Mom came out of her warehouse with something like a long iron, and she said, 'Now, every time you don't listen, I'll just hit you one at a time.'

I'm kind of sorry for her mom, but I think she's much better than when she was at home.]

Ms. C, who came here 4 months ago after experiencing domestic violence from her dad.

[Miss C: (What do you think of Dad?) Sometimes he seems like a good person, sometimes he is a real devil…

.]

Even after coming to the shelter, the healing process is not easy.

[Mr. D/Nursery teacher: There are children who can't control their emotions and tear up the wallpaper or harm themselves...

.]

It is always a pity that the two nursery teachers work alone in 24 hour shifts, doing all the housework and other chores, so they cannot pay more attention to the children.

[Mr. D/Nursery teacher: Because there is no cooking manpower right now...

Most of the time, there are 6 or 7 people, so we don't pay much attention to the learning part.] In

many cases, the living expenses of the government and local governments are 3.5 million won per month in this shelter where 7 children live.

The cost of living has risen so much that it is difficult to provide basic necessities for food expenses.

[Health of Abuse Victims' Shelter: When the children enter, we buy everything from daily necessities and sneakers to underwear...

.

I get a little discount by talking to Taekwondo academy.]

Each child can receive a monthly basic allowance of 500,000 won.

[Children's Shelter for Abuse Victims: If you don't have enough money, you can get a little less in December's salary.]

Still, seeing the children gradually recovering gives me strength.

[Mr. A/Nursery teacher: Now, I feel a lot of attention and love that children did not receive at home.

So, children change a bit...

It feels rewarding to see things like that.]
