Ahn Eun-ju, a victim of a humidifier disinfectant, passed away yesterday morning after a 12-year battle with the disease.

Ahn, a former volleyball player and energetic leader, has rapidly deteriorated after being diagnosed with pneumonia in 2011.

Despite his two lung transplants, he was never able to stand up.

A total of 7,712 victims were reported to the Humidifier Disinfectant Damage Support Center, of which 1,774 including Ahn died.

The discussion of relief for damages has always been at a standstill.

A compensation plan was prepared 11 years after the disaster, but even this went back to the beginning due to the rejection of Oxy and Aekyung.

Representatives of the two companies, who appeared as witnesses at the personnel hearings for the candidates for the environment minister, said there was no change in their position of rejecting the mediation proposal.

[Dong Seok Dong / Oxy Reckitt Benckiser: (Except for lung disease grades 1 and 2), there are aspects that have weak scientific evidence, and our company does not have data on such people.]

[Kang Eun-mi/Rep. of Justice Party: No more victims Do you think you will?]

[Chae Dong-seok/CEO of Aekyung Industry: To be honest, I have never thought about Congressman Kang’s question yet.]

Recently, a movie about the humidifier sterilizer disaster was released, causing a social repercussion. I did.

[Kim Tae-joong / Humidifier disinfectant victim family: Please wash the hearts of those victims before the dead come out any more.

Please.]

The National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee is reviewing a separate hearing on the relief of damages from humidifier disinfectants.
